4. Is specific guidance needed on general principles and broad concepts?

1.73469387755
e.g. how to assess vulnerability at the national or local level and what sectors have the highest priority? Key concepts & skills: • adaptation strategies, key sectors for national studies/assessments of resilience capacity • types of technologies, including new infrastructure and agricultural practices • types of risk management approaches, including security funds, insurance schemes, new infrastructure specifications

Guidance on Water and Adaptation to Climate Change (UNECE, 2009)
Adopted by the Meeting of the Parties and published in 2009, it provides step-by-step advice on how to adapt to climate change, with a special focus on transboundary basins.

34.jpgShifting Course: Climate Adaptation for Water Management Institutions (WWF-US, 2012)
A key challenge for successful climate change adaptation is the development of institutions that can respond more effectively to an uncertain climate future. Because water is the main medium through which we are likely to experience climate change, institutions that play a role in water resources management have a particular need to become more adaptive in their operations and interactions. WWF-US has just published this report that identifies a set of principles for climate-adaptive institutions. The report includes five case studies from around the world that highlight different institutional responses to climate change and related challenges.

Policy Brief 'Fisheries and Aquaculture in our Changing Climate' (Global Partnership for Climate, Fisheries and Aquaculture)
PaCFA is a voluntary global level initiative among more than 20 international organizations and sector bodies with a common concern for climate change interactions with global waters and living resources and their social and economic consequences.Members are actively involved in global meetings that address climate change issues in order to alert and inform decision-makers and climate change negotiators about the implications for fisheries and aquaculture. From this, global, national and local responses can be formulated and implemented for adaptation and mitigation in aquatic ecosystems and for fisheries and aquaculture and in national and local responses to climate change.
